HORROR FILM ACTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1887
Boris Karloff (William Henry Pratt)
(November 23, 1887- February 2, 1969)
Boris Karloff is best remembered for his roles in horror films such as
Frankenstein’s monster in Frankenstein (1931), Bride of Frankenstein
(1935), and Son of Frankenstein (1939). His best-known non-horror
portrayal is the Grinch, as well as the narrator, in the animated TV
special of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966).

The cast of “The Goldbergs” during rehearsal of the popular radio show
The program debuted on the NBC Blue Network as “The Rise of the Goldbergs”,
later known as “The Goldbergs” when it moved to CBS in 1936. It was devised by
writer-actress Gertrude Berg as a domestic comedy featuring the home life of a
Jewish tenement family, supposedly located in the Bronx. In addition to writing
the scripts and directing each episode, Berg starred as the Jewish matriarch
Molly Goldberg.
