HIGHLIGHTS OF PAST WORLD NEWS

On this day in 1968, three Apollo 8 astronauts, James A. Lovell,
William Anders and Frank Borman, reached the moon. They
orbited the moon 10 times before coming back to Earth. Seven
months later man first landed on the moon.

Several veterans of the Confederate Army formed a private social
club in Pulaski, TN, called the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) on this day in
1865 and still exists today.
Canadian born Reginald A. Fessenden (above) became the first
person to broadcast a human voice and music program over
radio, from Brant Rock, MA.
On this day in 1871, In Cairo, Egypt, Giuseppe Verdi’s opera "Aida"
had its world premiere at the Khedivial Opera House.

The poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" by Clement C. Moore (" ‘Twas
the night before Christmas…") was first published on this day in
1823.

Former Japanese premier Hideki Tojo and six other Japanese
war leaders were executed in Tokyo on this day in 1948. They
had been found guilty of crimes against humanity.

The Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. Founder of The Mormon Church (LDS)
was born on this day in 1805.

The crew of the U.S. Navy ship, Pueblo, was released by North Korea
on this day in 1968. The Captain of the Pueblo, Commander Lloyd M. Bucher, and 82 of his crew were held for 11 months after the ship
was seized by North Korea because of suspected spying by the U.S.

On this day in 1986, the experimental airplane Voyager, piloted by
Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, completed the first non-stop, around-
the-world flight without refueling as it landed safely at Edwards Air
Force Base in California.

Prohibition came to an end on this day in 1933, when Utah became

Animator- producer Walt Disney founded The Walt Disney Company and
created the iconic character Mickey Mouse and others. He produced such
classic films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) Pinocchio (1940)
and Cinderella (1950).

Little Richard (Richard Wayne Penniman) is 85 years old today.
Rock ‘n’ roll icon Little Richard who sang "Good Golly Miss Molly” was inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He first
performed onstage when he was fourteen. His first single "Tutti Fritti” was
released in 1955.
On April 28, 2016, Little Richard’s friend, Bootsy Collins stated on his Facebook
page that, "he (Richard) is not in the best of health so I ask all the Funkateers to
lift him up” and on May 3, 2016, Rolling Stone reported that Little Richard and his
lawyer provided a health information update in which Richard stated, “I’m still
singing. I don’t perform like I used to, but I have my singing voice, I walk around,
I had hip surgery a while ago but I’m healthy.”
Little Richard is now a Seventh-day Adventist Christian and is seen
here in a recent interview with no wig or make up.
MOVIE PROP DISCOVERED YEARS LATER
GUADALUPE, Calif. (AP) — Archaeologists working in sand dunes on the central California coast have dug up an intact plaster sphinx (above) that was part of an
Egyptian movie set built more than 90 years ago for Cecil B. DeMille’s silent film
epic "The Ten Commandments” (1923).
The 300-pound sphinx is the second recovered from the Guadalupe-Nipomo
Dunes.
