THE ‘’BIG D’’ WAS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1936
Donald Scott "Don" Drysdale (July 23, 1936 – July 3, 1993)
Drysdale was a Major League Baseball player and Hall of Fame
right-handed pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was one
of the dominant starting pitchers of the 1960s who pitched 6
shouts in a row. He became a radio and television broadcaster
following his playing career.
BASEBALL RECORD SET ON THIS DAY IN 1927
“The Georgia Peach” ,Ty Cobb, set a major league baseball record
by getting his 4,000th career hit. He hit a total 4,191 before he retired
in 1928.
JERRY VALE IS 80 TODAY
Singer Jerry Vale was born Gennaro Luigi Vitaliano in The Bronx, New York. His
version of “The Star-Spangled Banner”, recorded in the late 1960’s, is a fixture
at many sporting events for years. Jerry and Rita, his wife of over 40 years,
reside in Palm Desert, California.

FORMER FOOTBALL PLAYER AND ACTOR DEAD AT 72
Benjamin Earl "Ben" Davidson (June 14, 1940 – July 3, 2012)
Ben Davidson, a fierce defensive end for the Oakland Raiders of the
1960s who later worked as an actor and TV pitchman for Miller Lite beer,
died Monday from prostate cancer. His former Raiders coach, John
Madden, made the announcement on his KCBS morning radio show
in San Francisco.
