ACTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1901
Gary Cooper (born Frank James Cooper in Helena, Montana)
(May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961)
Gary Cooper received five Academy Award nominations for Best
Actor and won the award for his roles in High Noon (1952) and
Sergeant York (1941). He also played roles in Mr. Deeds Goes
to Town (1936) and The Pride of the Yankees 1942). Before
fame, he managed a ranch and worked for a newspaper as a
cartoonist in Montana.

George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985)
Welles received a scholarship to attend Harvard University after high school,
but chose instead to travel through Europe.

ABC’s Wide World of Sports is a sports anthology television series that
aired on the American Broadcasting Company from April 29, 1961 to
January 3, 1998, primarily on Saturday afternoons. Hosted by Jim McKay,
with a succession of co-hosts beginning in 1987, the title continued to be
used for general sports programs on the network until 2006. In 2007, Wide
World of Sports was named by Time Magazine on its list of the 100 best
television programs of all-time.
