Oregon was admitted to the Union on February 14, 1859. Founded as a refuge
from disputes over slavery, Oregon had a "whites only" clause in its original state Constitution.

Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Rogers is celebrating birthday 77 today.

Rogers joined his first band, The Scholars, in the mid-1950s, but the band
dissolved after their front man left to go solo. He is a 2013 inductee into the
Country Music Hall of Fame.
