TODAY IN HISTORY
SHOW GETS NEW HOST ON THIS DAY IN 1957
Jack Paar was asked by NBC to succeed Steve Allen as host of The Tonight Show,
when Allen left the show for prime time. Paar hosted the program until March 30,
1962.

PROP COMEDIAN IS 68 TODAY
Gallagher (born Leo Anthony Gallagher, Jr. in Fort Bragg, North Carolina
Gallagher became famous in the 80’s for his unique brand of prop comedy…
smashing watermelons as part of his act. It is said that Johnny Carson didn’t
like his brand of comedy so he was only able to go on The Tonight Show when
guest hosts were filling in for Johnny.
Before fame, Gallagher got a Chemical Engineering degree from the University
of South Florida in 1970. After he moved to Los Angeles he began developing
his comedy act while appearing at The Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.
RADIO HOST IS 74 TODAY
John Donald "Don" Imus, Jr. was born in Riverside, California
Imus is host of the nationally syndicated radio talk show, Imus in the Morning
that originated locally on WNBC radio in New York City in December 1971.
Due to failing health and commitments on his ranch, Imus has been taking
more and more time off from the program, often only working the first half
of the shows with the second halves containing pre-recorded material
hosted by Connell McShane.
Don Imus served in the United States Marine Corps for three years and
later worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad before becoming a disc
jockey. He established the Imus Ranch for Children.
