The pilot for Dragnet, "The Human Bomb" aired on NBC-TV as a special
presentation of the variety series Chesterfield Sound-Off Time. The show
garnered such high ratings that sponsor Liggett & Myers Tobacco dropped
the variety show and went with the police drama. The series officially began
on January 3, 1952 and ran until 1959.

Lucille Ball and Richard Denning
“My Favorite Husband”, starring Lucille Ball and Richard Denning, was the initial
basis for what would become the most beloved groundbreaking TV sitcom of all
time, I Love Lucy. The CBS program aired 124 episodes from July 23, 1948,
through March 31, 1951. The series was based on the novels Mr. and Mrs.
Cugat, the Record of a Happy Marriage (1940) and Outside Eden (1945)
written by Isabel Scott Rorick. The main sponsor was General Foods‘ Jell-O.

COMEDIAN TIM CONWAY IS 80 TODAY
Tim is best known for his portrayal of Ensign Charles Parker on the ABC
sitcom, McHale’s Navy (1962-1966). He also starred on The Carol Burnett
Show on CBS (1967-1978).
Before fame, Tim Conway took a job answering mail at a local Cleveland
radio station after graduating college.
