TODAY WAS ‘’C DAY’’ IN CHICAGO IN 1956

Sunday, April 15, 1956, is membered as "C-Day" at WMAQ-TV. It was described
by Broadcasting-Telecasting magazine as "a daring breakthrough the black-and-
white curtain." At 4:15 PM, Robert W. Sarnoff, then President of NBC, pushed a
button and ushered in a new era in television. Channel 5 became the world’s first
all-color TV station as "Wide, Wide World" carried the event to 110 NBC-TV
affiliated stations across the country.

Country music star Roy Clark hosted Hee Haw for 20 years on
CBS. He also released the hit song "Yesterday, When I Was
Young” in 1969.

TONY DOW IS 70 YEARS OLD TODAY

Tony Dow
Tony Lee Dow was born in Hollywood, California.

Dow played Wally Cleaver on the CBS/ABC television series,
“Leave it to Beaver” (1957-1963). The sitcom earned him a
Former Child Star "Lifetime Achievement" Award. As a teen
he was a Junior Olympics diving champion.
