RADIO SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1948

The Railroad Hour
was a radio series in which Hollywood musical dramas and comedies ,well-known operettas, and Broadway shows were featured. It was
broadcast on ABC from Monday October 4, 1948 as a 45-minute program and
was reduced to 30 minutes in 1949 till September 26, 1949. It then moved to
NBC for a run from October 3, 1949, until June 21, 1954. Singer-actor Gordon
MacRae starred along with guest co-stars like Doris Day and Jane Powell.The
announcer for the series was Marvin Miller (below).

The Mickey Mouse Club is an variety television show created for children by Walt
Disney Productions that aired on  ABC –TV from Monday October 3, 1955 to 1959. It featured a regular but ever changing cast of young performers. The show was hosted
by songwriter Jimmie Dodd (below). The main cast members were called Mouseketeers who performed in a variety of musical and dance numbers.

VARIETY SHOW DEBUT ON THIS DATE IN 1955

The Red Skelton Show
is a television variety show that ran for two decades
beginning on Sunday September 30, 1951 and ending on August 1, 1971. It
was second to Gunsmoke ( 1955-1975) and third to The Ed Sullivan Show
(1948-1971) in the ratings during that time. The show was largely associated
with the CBS television network, where it appeared for more than fifteen years,
but it actually began and ended on NBC. The Red Skelton Show received
three Emmy Awards, for Skelton for best comedian and the program as
best comedy show during its first season, and an award for the comedy
writing in 1961.
