Waylon Arnold Jennings (June 15, 1937 – February 13, 2002) 
 
was born in
Littlefield, Texas. 

 
Without even knowing how to read music, Jennings vowed to have a
career in as a musician, and never have to pick cotton again. He was
the narrator of the original The Dukes of Hazzard.on CBS-TV from
January 26, 1979 – February 8, 1985.

James King Arness (May 26, 1923 – June 3, 2011)

Arness portrayed the role of Marshall Dillon on TV’s Gunsmoke for twenty years
(1955 to 1975). According to legend, his friend John Wayne declined the role 
and recommended Arness. He spent time as a courier for a jewelry wholesaler
while attending high school.

ACTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1901


Gary Cooper (born Frank James Cooper in Helena, Montana)
(May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961)

Cooper became famous for playing Marshall Will Kane in “High Noon”
(1952). He also played roles in “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town” (1936), and 
“The Pride of the Yankees” (1942). Before fame, he managed a ranch
and worked as a newspaper cartoonist in Montana.
