Killing three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd: Apparently in 1977, Aerosmith's flight crew inspected ...

Three musicians from the iconic American rock band Lynyrd
Skynyrd, plus three others, were killed in a terrifying plane
crash on the Louisiana-Mississippi border on this day in
history, Oct. 20, 1977.

Lead singer and founder Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve
Gaines, and his sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines, were
all killed on impact.

The crash of the small Convair CV-240 passenger plane also
claimed the lives of assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick,
pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray

Previous Chief Justices: John Jay, 1789-1795 | Supreme Court Historical Society

(FOX NEWS) – Founding Father John Jay, a towering
figure among the intellectual giants who forged the
nation, was sworn in as first chief justice of the
Supreme Court of the United States on this day in
history, Oct. 19, 1789.

The New York native held the title until resigning in
1795, among the shortest tenures for the prestigious
lifetime appointment.

Only 16 other people have held the title of Supreme
Court chief justice in the 227 years since.

THE BRITISH WERE DEFEATED ON THIS DAY

Hopelessly trapped at Yorktown, Virginia, British General
Lord Cornwallis surrendered 8,000 British soldiers and
seamen to a  larger Franco-American force on October
19, 1781, effectively bringing an end to the American
Revolution.
