HISTORY WAS MADE ON THIS DAY
The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a notable critical
and popular success, winning six Tony Awards, including Best
Musical. It set a record for the longest run of any musical on
Broadway up to that time and was followed by a hit London
production. Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews starred in both
productions.


FIRST U.S. SPACE STATION WAS LAUNCHED
(NASA) – America’s first space station, Skylab, launched into
Earth’s orbit on this day in history, May 14, 1973.
The unmanned space station blasted into space on a modified
Saturn V rocket at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.
According to Space.com., this marked the last time the Saturn
V rocket was used in spaceflight.

LOCAL VET CELEBRATES 102nd BIRTHDAY
ELLENSBURG, Wash. — A senior living center in Ellensburg is celebrating the birthday of a local World War II veteran with
friends, family, and even community members making an
appearance.
Ernest Altice or commonly known as Ernie, celebrated his
102nd birthday Monday at Pacifica Senior Living Ellensburg,
a place he’s been at since January 1.
Altice served in the Navy as a radio technician first class
from 1942 to 1946 in World War II.
Just like Ernie had the honor of serving in the Navy, Pacifica
Senior Living has had the privilege of serving him.
PIONEER OF THE BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE IS 80
George Walton Lucas Jr., a filmmaker and philanthropist who
created the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, is 80
years old today.
Lucas is one of history’s most financially successful filmmakers
and has been nominated for four Academy Awards.
