TIME FOR BEANY ~ 1949
On February 28, 1949, a puppet show called TIME FOR BEANY
debuted on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles. It became a huge success
and went national on the Paramount Television Network (PTN)
from 1950 to 1955. The show was created by animator Bob
Clampett, who later made it into the animated series BEANY
AND CECIL. Principal voice actors were Daws Butler and
comedian Stan Freberg.

Daws Butler is pictured with puppet’s Captain Horatio Huffen Puff and Beany, while Stan Freberg, background, has Cecil and the caped
villian, Dishonest John. Butler later became the voice of Hanna-
Barbera’s animated characters Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw
and Huckle Berry Hound.

EARLY TELEVISION’S LIVE DRAMA’S
Kraft Television Theatre aired a series of drama’s weekly from 1947 to
1958 on NBC. It launched the careers of many actors,directors and
playwrights.
Westinghouse Studio One began as a CBS radio drama series
in 1947 and moved to CBS-TV in 1948. It ran for ten seasons.
Former film actress,TV host and later,consumer advocate Betty
Fruness stands beside an open Westinghouse refrigerator on
the set during a live commercial break from a 1956 episode of
Westinghouse Studio One.
PLAYHOUSE 90 was another great dramatic television series. It
aired on CBS –TV from 1956 to 1961 for a total of 133 episodes.
One of the writers for the series was… Rod Serling.
