Big band drummer and composer Gene Krupa was the first to be
inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1978. Krupa has
been called one of the most influential drummers of the 20th century.

DRUMMER BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1909
END OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR ON THIS DATE IN 1784
The United States ratified a peace treaty with England that ended the
Revolutionary War and established the US as a sovereign nation. John
Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison took part in negotiating
the treaty with King George lll.
IT WAS MUSICAL CENSORSHIP ON THIS DATE IN 1967
The Rolling Stones were initially refused permission to perform the number on The Ed Sullivan Show. Sullivan himself told Jagger, "Either the song goes or you go”. A compromise was reached to substitute the words "let’s spend some time together" in place of "let’s spend the night together"; Jagger agreed to change the lyrics but ostentatiously rolled his eyes at the TV camera while singing them. Soon after the performance, the Stones disappeared from the studio. Ed Sullivan announced that the Rolling Stones would be banned from performing on his show again. In April 2006, for their first-ever performance in China, authorities prohibited the group from performing the song due to its "suggestive lyrics”.
SANFORD AND SON PREMIERED ON THIS DATE IN 1972
SANFORD AND SON starred Redd Foxx as junk dealer Fred G. Sanford
and Demond Wilson played his son, Lamont Sanford. The sitcom aired
until March 25, 1977 on NBC-TV. In 2007, Time magazine included the
show on their list of the “100 Best TV Shows of All Time”.

ACTOR JOHN DYE FOUND DEAD AT 47 (AP)
Actor John Dye, whose career included the role of Andrew, the angel of death, in the long-running television series "Touched by an Angel," was found dead at his San Francisco home, a medical examiner’s spokesman said Thursday.
Medical examiner’s investigator Charles Cecil said the 47-year-old Dye, a native of Amory, Miss., was found dead Monday.
The cause of death has not been determined, Cecil said, but relatives said Dye suffered apparent heart failure.
