FAMOUS DIRECTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1894
John Ford (February 1, 1894 – August 31, 1973)
Director John Ford was famous for his on location westerns starring John Wayne
such as Stagecoach (1939), The Searchers (1956), and The man Who Shot
Liberty Valance (1962). He also directed the 20th-century adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel The Grapes of Wrath (1940). In a successful career that spanned
more than 50 years, Ford directed more than 140 films and won four Academy
Awards for Best Director which is a record.
RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1965
“Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” is a song written and recorded by James Brown. The recording of the tune was taped in under one hour at Arthur Smith Studios in Charlotte, North Carolina The single was Brown’s first song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top Ten, peaking at number eight. It was also a number-one R&B hit, in the top spot for
eight weeks.

international singing star of the gospel as a result of his solo performances at Billy Graham Crusades along with his recordings. According to the Guinness Book of
Records Shea holds the world record for singing in person to the most people
ever, with an estimated live audience of 220 million people.
