There’s another holiday today that should be known by most native
Oregonians. The state was granted statehood on February 14, 1859. 

Saint Valentine’s Day, commonly called Valentine’s Day, began as a holiday
observed on February 14 honoring one or more early Christian martyrs named
Saint Valentine. It was first established by Pope Gelasius in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. 

Ted Lewis’ version of "Just A Gigolo" was the most popular tune in America. David Lee Roth scored a number 12 hit with the same song 54 years later in 1985.
