Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday that commemorates Saint
Patrick (AD 387-461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of
Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity to the country.The holiday was celebrated
in New York City for the first time in 1756. The event took place at the Crown

to the pre-Christian people of Ireland.

SATELLITE LAUNCHED ON THIS DAY IN 1958

Project Vanguard was a program of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. When 
the agency launched Vanguard 1, it became the second artificial satellite to be
placed successfully in Earth orbit by the United States. It was the first solar-
powered satellite. It is the oldest satellite still in space, as it’s predecessors,
Sputnik 1, Sputnik 2, and Explorer 1, have fallen out of orbit.

                Nat King Cole , born Nathaniel Adams Coles
 

                       (March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965)

Nat King Cole first came to prominence as a leading jazz pianist. He was
one of the first black Americans to host a television variety show, The Nat
King Cole Show
which debuted on November 5, 1956 on NBC-TV. Cole has
remained popular since his death from lung cancer at 45. In 2000, He was
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the major influences
on early rock and roll.
