THE ‘’FIFTH BEATLE’’ DIED ON THIS DAY IN 1962

Stuart Sutcliffe

          Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe
(23 June 1940 – 10 April 1962)

Stuart Sutcliffe was a Scottish artist and musician, best known as the original bass
player of The Beatles when they were a five-piece band. He left the band to pursue
a art career, having previously attended art school in Liverpool. Sutcliffe and John Lennon are credited with coming up with the name The Beatles,
as both liked Buddy
Holly’s band, The Crickets. The Beatles’
mop top haircut has been credited to the
style worn by Sutcliffe.

In 1962, Sutcliffe collapsed in the middle of a art class in Hamburg after having complained of head pains. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but died on
the way from a brain hemorrhage, the cause of which remains unknown.
Lennon
did not attend or send flowers to Sutcliffe’s funeral
