MAN WITH THE GOLDEN VOICE IS 76 TODAY

The National Park Service established the Golden Spike National Historic
Site in 1957
A golden spike is ceremonially driven, completing the first transcontinental
railroad, at Promontory Point, Utah. Pictured on the left is the Central Pacific locomotive, on the right the Union Pacific engine.

HE BECAME PRIME MINISTER ON THIS DAY IN 1940
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom 10 May 1940 – 26 July 1945 He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory over Nazi Germany had been secured.

FOLK SINGER IS 66 TODAY
Donovan (born Donovan Philips Leitch) is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. His
successful records in the 1960s include "Catch the Wind”, his first release in 1965
where it reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. Donovan currently lives with his
family in County Cork in Ireland.
