GEORGE MCGOVERN IS 90 TODAY
George Stanley McGovern is a former U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator,
and the Democratic Party nominee in the 1972 presidential election.
He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and as a
B-24 Liberator pilot flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe. He
was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous
emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew.
After the war, McGovern obtained degrees from Dakota Wesleyan University
and Northwestern University, earning a Ph.D, becoming a history professor.

COMEDY WRITER HAS DIED AT 59

Thomas James "Tom" Davis (August 13, 1952 – July 19, 2012)
HUDSON, N.Y.(AP) – Tom Davis, an Emmy Award- winning writer who
with Al Franken helped develop some of the most popular skits in the
early years of "Saturday Night Live," died on Thursday at age 59.
His wife, Mimi Raleigh, said he died of throat and neck cancer at his
home in the Hudson Valley, north of New York City. He was diagnosed
in 2009.

Harriet Nelson was born Peggy Louise Snyder in Des Moines, Iowa. She
was singer and actress, best known for her portrayal on the long-running
sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet on radio, CBS/NBC from 1944
to 1954 and on ABC-TV from 1952 to 1966.
