REMEMBERING ~“THE TOY MAKER”

Film and stage actor Frederick Giermann hosted the local
children’s show on Portland’s KPTV that aired weekday
afternoons from Monday, May 4, 1953 to September 10,
1954. There was also a Saturday morning show called
”The Toymaker and his Friends”. It debuted on August 8,
1953. Sponsor’s included Alpenrose Dairy and Grandma’s
Cookies.

NO MORE TWINKIES?

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that Hostess Brands, makers of Twinkies 
and other snack foods, is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this 
week and is talking permanent closure. Hostess, who also makes Wonder Bread, has declined further comment on the matter. The company is headquartered in Irving, TX.  

Twinkies were invented in Schiller Park, Illinois in 1930 by James Alexander Dewar, a 
baker for the Continental Baking Company.
