Actor Alan Alda (Alphonso Joseph D’Abruzzo) is a six-time
Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner, best known
for his role as Hawkeye Pierce in the CBS-TV series M*A*S*H
(1972-1983).

FIRST HEARD ON THIS DAY IN 1956
The CBS Radio Workshop was an experimental dramatic radio anthology series
that aired on CBS from January 27, 1956, until September 22, 1957. It was one
of the last attempts by CBS to regain some of the listeners that had been lost
to television in the post-World War Two era.
The premiere broadcast was a two-part adaptation of Aldous Huxley‘s Brave New
World, introduced and narrated by Huxley. Music for the series was composed by
Jerry Goldsmith, Ray Noble and others.
JAMES CROMWELL TURNED 73 TODAY
James Oliver Cromwell made his acting debut on the NBC-
TV show, ‘The Rockford Files’ in 1974. His notable films
include Babe (1995), for which he was nominated for an
Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, Star Trek: First
Contact (1996), L.A. Confidential (1997), and The Green
Mile (1999).
