‘’RECORD FOUND FREE OF OBSCENITIES’’

Kingsmen_-_Louie_Louie

Shortly after it’s release in 1963, rumors began circulating alleging the lyrics
of the song “Louie, Louie” were laced with a profane depiction of sexuality
between a sailor and his girl. The groups singer Jack Ely had just had his
braces tightened, thus muffling some of the words, making them sound
unintelligible. The song was banned on many radio stations across the
country, but a lengthy investigation by the FBI concluded they were
“unable to interpret any of the wording in the record.”

"Mickey’s Monkey" was written and produced by Motown’s
main songwriting team of
Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and
Eddie Holland, who later went on to write two more hits for
the Miracles, which was unusual, as most Miracles songs
were composed by the group members themselves.
