FIRST TELEVISION COMMERCIAL

TP-WNBT4b

The first television advertisement was broadcast at 2:29 p.m. (ET) on
July 1, 1941. NBC affiliate WNBT aired this 10 second spot before a
baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia
Phillies. It was purchased by the Bulova company to promote their
clocks with the phrase, “America Runs on Bulova Time.” Bulova
paid $9 for the world’s first commercial spot.
