James Travis "Jim" Reeves (August 20, 1923 – July 31, 1964)
Reeves, known as “Gentleman Jim”, joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1955.He
is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of
Fame.
A series of forest fires in the Northern Oregon Coast Range called the Tillamook
Burn destroyed over 300,000 acres of old growth timber in what is now known as
the Tillamook State Forest. There were four wildfires in this series which started
in the Gales Creek Canyon on Monday, August 14, 1933. According to reports,
a steel cable dragging a fallen Douglas fir rubbed up against the dry bark of a
wind-fallen snag and burst into flams.
According to their manager, Brian Epstein, The Beatles were asked to
come up with a song containing a simple message to be understood by
all nationalities. He said, "It was an inspired song and they really wanted
to give the world a message.”
