LOOKING BACK AT TODAY IN HISTORY
TODAY IS THE BIRTHDAY OF BETTE DAVIS
Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989)
Davis is remembered by many for her role in All About Eve in 1950. Her
performance in the 1935 film, Of Human Bondage, earned her critical
acclaim. She founded her own production company, BD Productions,
and starred in its first film, A Stolen Life (1946).
JAMESTOWN WEDDING ON THIS DAY IN 1614
American Indian Pocahontas married English colonist John Rolfe at a church in
Jamestown, Virginia. Reverend Richard Buck, a Chaplin of the first session of
the Virginia General Assembly, presided their wedding. Pocahontas was later
known as Rebecca Rolfe. They had a son named Thomas who was born on
January 30, 1615.
John Rolfe contributed greatly to the early development
of the American colonies. His success as a farmer had a
significant financial impact.

SONGWRITER IS DEAD AT 93
Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith (April 1, 1921 – April 3, 2014)
Smith, who is best known for writing the crossover instrumental hit,
"Dueling Banjos" – died of natural causes Thursday (April 3) at his
home in Charlotte, N.C.
