RADIO SHOW DEBUT ON THIS DAY IN 1949
The “Martin & Lewis” radio show premiered on the NBC network. Their guest on
the inaugural program was Bob Hope. It drew lackluster reviews in the April 30
issue of Billboard magazine. The series ran until 1952.
RECORDING BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1964
The instrumental track for "I Get Around" was recorded on April 2 and the vocals
were recorded during a session eight days later on April 10. The finished single
was released on May 11. In July, “ Get Around” became The Beach Boys’ first
number-one song in the United States.

Buddy Ebsen (Christian Ludolf Ebsen, Jr.)
(April 2, 1908 – July 6, 2003)
Character actor and dancer Buddy Ebsen performed for seven
decades, he had starring roles as Jed Clampett in the long-
running CBS television series The Beverly Hillbillies and as the
title character in the 1970s detective series Barnaby Jones. He
also co-starred with Fess Parker in Walt Disney‘s Davy Crockett
miniseries (1953–54), and was originally cast as the Tin Man in
The Wizard of Oz (1939) until he fell ill from an allergy when
wearing the makeup.
