FORMER D.C. MAYOR DIES AT 78
Marion Shepilov Barry, Jr. (March 6, 1936 – November 23, 2014)
Marion Barry, the longtime mayor of the District of Columbia died shortly after
midnight Sunday at the United Medical Center, after having been released from
Howard University Hospital the previous day.
No cause of death was immediately specified, but spokeswoman LaToya Foster
said Barry collapsed outside his home. Barry had battled kidney problems as a
result of diabetes and high blood pressure and underwent a kidney transplant
in February 2009.
Barry made a political comeback after a 1990 FBI sting videotaped him smoking
crack cocaine,

HITLER PAINTING SOLD AT AUCTION
BERLIN (AP) – A watercolor of Munich’s old city hall painted by Adolf Hitler a
century ago has been sold for $162,000 at an auction in Germany.
Kathrin Weidler, director of the Weider auction house in Nuremberg, said the
work attracted bidders from four continents and went to a buyer from the Middle
East. She declined to elaborate.
The painting was sold by a pair of elderly sisters whose grandfather purchased
it in 1916.

Actor Boris Karloff played the monster in the 1931 film, Frankenstein. He
also starred in Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Son of Frankenstein
(1939). He is the main character of the 1957 animated Christmas story
How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Prior to becoming an actor, he was
employed as a farm laborer.
