In His Own Write is a book by John Lennon consisting of
short stories, poems, and surreal line drawings. The book
is notable in that it was the first solo Beatle project in any
form. It was followed in 1965 by A Spaniard in the Works.

Joan Crawford (Lucille Fay LeSueur) (March 23, 1904 – May 10, 1977)
Crawford was a noted, Oscar-winning film and television actress who started
her career as a dancer in Detroit. She was on the board of directors for Pepsi-
Cola after the death of her husband in 1959. Crawford was voted the tenth
greatest female star in the history of American cinema by the American Film
Institute.
Mildred Pierce was Crawford’s first starring film for Warner Bros.
after leaving MGM, and won her the Academy Award for Best
Actress.

SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1940
Truth or Consequences, a mix of game show elements with wacky stunts,
was originally hosted on NBC radio by Ralph Edwards (above) from 1940
to 1957. The popular daily syndicated show was produced by Ralph
Edwards Productions. Sponsors included Duz soap, as well as Ivory
soap, Philip Morris, and Pet Milk. Truth or Consequences made its TV
debut on CBS in 1950.
Action Comics #127 (December 1948), featuring Superman
