ACTRESS MAUREEN O’HARA IS 95 TODAY

Maureen O’Harah (Maureen FitzSimons)

Irish born actress Maureen O’Hara starred alongside John Wayne in 
1952’s The Quiet Man and portrayed Doris Walker in 1947’s Miracle
on 34th Street.
She also played Esmeralda in the 1939 film adaptation
of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She worked as a bookkeeper and
typist before earning her first acting roles.

(AP) – Six decades after "Gunsmoke" debuted on television, several actors who appeared in the show, including Burt Reynolds, are scheduled to reunite in
Dodge City.

The Wichita Eagle reports the actors will attend Wild West Fest on Sept. 25-27
hosted by the Boot Hill Casino & Resort, the Wild West Heritage Foundation and
the Roundup Rodeo.

Besides Reynolds, who portrayed blacksmith Quint Asper from 1962 to 1965, also attending are Bruce Boxleitner, Buck Taylor, Jess Walton, Lane Bradbury and
Merry Florene.

"Gunsmoke" ran on CBS from 1955 through 1975 and was nominated for more
than a dozen Emmys.

Other key actors from the show have died, including James Arness, who starred
as Marshal Matt Dillon; Amanda Blake, who played Miss Kitty; Dennis Weaver
who portrayed Chester Goode, and Milburn Stone, who was Doc Adams.

Trivia: When aired in the UK, the television series “Gunsmoke” was
initially titled “Gun Law”.

NASCAR LEGEND HAS DIED AT 74

Elzie Wylie "Buddy" Baker, Jr.
(January 25, 1941 – August 10, 2015)
 

Baker was an NASCAR driver and sports commentator. He died Monday at his
home in Catawba County,  North Caroline from inoperable lung cancer.

In 1997, Baker joined his father as an inductee into the International Motorsports
Hall of
Fame
in Talladega, Alabama. He, previously, had been inducted into the Charlotte Motor Speedway Court of Legends in 1995, and into the National
Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame in 1997. He was named one of
NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998.

Jack Harold Paar  (May 1, 1918 – January 27, 2004)

In order to compete with Dave Garroway and The Today Show
on NBC, CBS replaced Walter Cronkite with newcomer Jack
Parr to host the CBS Morning Show. The show didn’t attract
enough sponsors, so Paar left.
