CRISIS ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1962
The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis formally ended
when the Soviet Union removed its missiles and bombers from Cuba and
the U.S.ended its blockade of the island. A series of agreements sharply
reduced U.S.–Soviet tensions during the following years.

LARRY KING IS 83 TODAY
Larry King (Lawrence Harvey Zeiger) was born in Brooklyn, New
York.
Larry King is a TV and radio interviewer, author, and columnist who gained
widespread popularity for the Larry King Live Show on CNN. His work has
been recognized with awards including two Peabody’s and ten Cable ACE
.Awards.
EYE LOST IN ACCIDENT ON THIS DAY IN 1954
Sammy Davis Jr nearly lost his life in an automobile accident in San Bernardino,
California. The impact of the crash had driven Sammy’s face into the steering
wheel, and his left eye was forced out of its socket by the bullet-shaped horn
button at the center of the wheel of his 1954 Cadillac. After wearing an eye
patch for years, he was fitted with a glass eye.
