BRINGING HOME THE BACON IN 1920

1920 Wilson's Bacon Ad ~ New Years Baby

Wilson & Co. evolved over the years to adapt to a changing
market and changing leadership. The business began in
1916 when founder Thomas Edward Wilson took control of
the Chicago meat packinghouse, Sulzberger & Sons Co.,
and rebranded it as Wilson & Co.

By 1917, the company ranked as one of the 50 largest industrial corporations in the United States, and continued to employ
thousands of workers at its plant in Chicago until the 1950s.

Wilson & Co. held several subsidiaries that utilized animal by-
products for the manufacture of sporting goods.

(FOX NEWS) – Peter Yarrow, known as part of the folk trio
Peter, Paul and Mary, has died.

Yarrow passed away Tuesday in New York, according to
publicist Ken Sunshine. The musician had spent the last
four years battling bladder cancer.

"Our fearless dragon is tired and has entered the last
chapter of his magnificent life. The world knows Peter
Yarrow the iconic folk activist, but the human being
behind the legend is every bit as generous, creative,
passionate, playful, and wise as his lyrics suggest,"
his daughter Bethany said in a statement.

CROSSING THE ENGLISH CHANNEL BY AIR

7 January 1785 | This Day in Aviation

Frenchman Jean-Pierre Blanchard and American John
Jeffries traveled from Dover, England, to Calais, France,
in a
gas balloon, becoming the first to cross the English
Channel by air.

The two men nearly crashed into the Channel along the
way, however, as their balloon was weighed down by
extraneous supplies such as anchors, a nonfunctional
hand-operated propeller, and silk-covered oars with
which they hoped they could row their way through the
air.

Just before reaching the French coast, the two balloonists
were forced to throw nearly everything out of the balloon,
and Blanchard even threw his trousers over the side in a
desperate, but apparently successful, attempt to lighten
the ship.

HISTORY WAS MADE ON THIS DAY IN 1789

First U S presidential election January 07 1789 This Day in History - YouTube

Congress set January 7, 1789 as the date by which states
are
required to choose electors for the country’s first-ever
presidential election. A month later, on February 4,
George
Washington
was elected president by state electors and
sworn into office on April 30, 1789.

As it did in 1789, the United States still uses the Electoral
College
system, which today gives all American citizens
over the age of 18 the right to vote for electors, who in
turn vote for the president.

The president and vice president are the only elected
federal officials chosen by the Electoral College instead
of by direct popular vote.
