RECORD RELEASE ON THIS DAY IN 1961

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight", also known as "Wimoweh" and originally
as "Mbube", became a number one hit by The Tokens on December
18, 1961. It went on to earn at least 15 million dollars in royalties
from covers and film licensing.
