DISNEY FILM PREMIERED ON THIS DAY IN 1940

Pinocchio
is a 1940 animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney
Productions
and based on the story The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo
Collodi
. It is the second animated feature film produced by Disney. Made
after the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio was
released to theaters by RKO Radio Pictures. The world premier was at
the Center Theatre in Manhattan.

The Elk fountain was given to the city by David P. Thompson. He arrived in Portland driving sheep over the Oregon Trail. He served as Portland’s mayor from 1879-1882
and was founder and director of the Oregon Humane Society.

Betsy-Ross

Betsy Ross (born Elizabeth Griscom) also known by her second and 
third married names
Elizabeth Ashburn and Elizabeth Claypoole. 

                               (January 1, 1752 – January 30, 1836)  

Ross was a seamstress who owned and operated an upholstery shop with
her husband. She was commissioned by George Washington to design and 
make the first American flag in 1776. Betsy Ross has become a significant
symbol in American history.
