SCI – FI WRITER BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1917
Sir Arthur Charles Clarke (December 16, 1917- March 19, 2008)
Clarke was a British science fiction author, inventor, and futurist, famous for
his short stories and novels, among them “The Sentinel” (1951) which partially
inspired Stanley Kubrick’s epic film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Clarke
co-wrote the screenplay with Kubrick.
WELL KNOWN CHEF IS DEAD AT 81
Art Ginsburg, commonly known as Mr. Food, was a television chef and best
selling author of cookbooks. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
in 2011 and underwent treatments, including surgery, which had caused the
cancer to go into remission. However, it returned in October. He died at his
home that he shared with his wife Ethel in Weston, Florida. Ginsburg was
originally a butcher and ran his own catering business prior to work in
television. The series he founded is expected to continue with other
chefs as hosts.
SCOTTISH AUTHOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1850
Robert Louis Stevenson, 7 years old
Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson (13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894)
Stevenson is the author of the classic adventure novel "Treasure Island", and
”Strange Case of Dr Jekyll”. He also played the piano and wrote over 123
original musical arrangements for various instruments.
