     Ernest Miller Hemingway
(July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961)

Hemingway was an American author and journalist whose writing style
had a strong influence on 20th-century fiction. He produced most of his
work between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s, and won the Nobel
Prize in Literature
in 1954. He published seven novels, six short story
collections and two non-fiction works. Three novels, four collections of
short stories and three non-fiction works were published posthumously
and many of these are considered classics of American literature.

GEORGE MCGOVERN IS 90 TODAY

George Stanley McGovern is a former U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator,
and the Democratic Party nominee in the 1972 presidential election.

He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and as a
B-24 Liberator pilot flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe. He
was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous
emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew.

After the war, McGovern obtained degrees from Dakota Wesleyan University 
and Northwestern University, earning a Ph.D, becoming a history professor.

ACTRESS CELESTE HOLM DEAD AT 95

              Celeste Holm
(April 29, 1917 – July 15, 2012)

NEW YORK (AP) – Celeste Holm, a versatile, bright-eyed blonde who
soared to Broadway fame in "Oklahoma!" and won an Oscar in
"Gentleman’s Agreement" but whose last years were filled with
financial difficulty and estrangement from her sons, died early this
morning, a relative said.

Holm had been hospitalized about two weeks ago with dehydration. She
asked her husband on Friday to bring her home and spent her final days
with her husband,Frank Basile, and other relatives and close friends by
her side, said Amy Phillips, a great-niece of Holm’s.

She won the Academy Award in 1947 for best supporting actress for her
performance in "Gentlemen’s Agreement" and received Oscar nominations
for "Come to the Stable" (1949) and "All About Eve" (1950).
