Annette Joanne Funicello was Walt Disney’s most popular cast member of
the original Mickey Mouse Club. She went on to appear in a series of beach
party films. Annette had a number of pop record  hits in the late 1950s and
early 1960s, mostly written by the Sherman Brothers, such as “Tall Paul”.

LAND OF THE LOST

Land of the Lost
was a 1940s radio fantasy adventure, written and narrated by
pioneer radio commentator Isabel Manning Hewson (below). The show followed
the adventures of two children, Isabel and Billy, who traveled underwater with a
fish named Red Lantern. Hewson launched the series on Saturday October 9,
1943 on the ABC Blue network and aired till July 3, 1948. Art Carney was the
original voice of Red Lantern.

LONG-RUNNING KIDS SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1955

Captain Kangaroo
is a children’s TV series which aired weekday mornings on
the CBS television network for nearly 30 years, from Monday October 3,1955
until December 8, 1984, making it the longest-running children’s television
program of its day. The show was conceived and the title character played
by Bob Keeshan who was the original Clarabell the Clown on The Howdy
Doody Show
on NBC.
