Buddy Ebsen (Christian Ludolf Ebsen, Jr.)

(April 2, 1908 – July 6, 2003)

Character actor and dancer Buddy Ebsen performed for seven 
decades, he had starring roles as
Jed Clampett in the long-
running
CBS television series The Beverly Hillbillies and as the
title character in the 1970s detective series Barnaby Jones. He
also co-starred with Fess Parker in Walt Disney‘s Davy Crockett
miniseries (1953–54), and was originally cast as the Tin Man in
The Wizard of Oz (1939) until he fell ill from an allergy when
wearing the makeup.

Actor, comedian, director, and producer Carl Reiner has won nine Emmy
Awards and one Grammy during his career. He partnered with Mel Brooks
as a writer and comedian starting in 1950 with Sid Caesar’s Your Show of
Shows on NBC. Before fame, Reiner worked as a machinist  fixing sewing
machines before his older brother encouraged him to switch careers. Carl
is the father of director Rob Reiner.

CHARACTER ACTRESS HAS DIED AT 89

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Mary Grace Canfield, a veteran character actress
who played handywoman Ralph Monroe on the television show "Green Acres," has
died. She was 89.

Her daughter, Phoebe Alexiades, says Canfield died of lung cancer on Saturday at
a hospice in the California coastal town of Santa Barbara.

Canfield had appearances on a number of TV shows during a four-decade career, including "General Hospital" and "The Hathaways." She was Harriet Kravitz on four episodes of the 1960s series "Bewitched."

But she was best known for her role of Ralph Monroe in some 40 episodes of "Green Acres," which ran from 1965 to 1971 on CBS.

BURNS AND ALLEN RADIO DEBUT IN 1932

Burns and Allen debuted as regulars on The Guy Lombardo Show on CBS
radio. When Lombardo switched to NBC, they took over his CBS spot with 
The Adventures of Gracie beginning September 19, 1934. Two years later
it evolved into the “Burns & Allen Show”. George and Gracie continued on
radio for 14 more years before making the switch to television.
