Walter Cronkite began as anchor of "The CBS Evening News" on April 16,  
1962. On September 2, 1963, the CBS Evening News became network 
television’s first half-hour weeknight news broadcast which was extended
from its original 15 minutes, and telecast at 6:30 P.M. ET. Walter Cronkite 
retired from “The CBS Evening News” on March 6, 1981. 

A Labor Day weekend interview in 1963 with President John F. Kennedy
and Walter Cronkite at Hyannis Port was to inaugurate the first half hour
CBS News, network national nightly news broadcast.

Bobby Vinton (Stanley Robert Vinton, Jr.)

Pop singer Bobby Vinton’s #1 charting single "Blue Velvet" in 1963 was 
made famous by the film of the same name by David Lynch. His first hit
single was "Roses Are Red (My Love)." Bobby was a member of the U.S.
Army and signed to Epic Records after being discharged.

popularity over decades. It premiered on NBC in 1935 and continued
until the last episode in 1959. The stars of the program were real-life
husband and wife team James "Jim" Jordan and Marian Driscoll

The Western television series The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok ran for eight
seasons from 1951 through 1958. The Screen Gems production began in
syndication, but ran on CBS from 1955 through 1958, and, at the same time,
on ABC from 1957 through 1958.
