HOWARD TO DIRECT DOCUMENTARY

The-Beatlesmain

NEW YORK (AP) — Ron Howard will direct a documentary on the Beatles that
focuses on the band’s touring years during the early 1960s.

Howard announced the project Wednesday. The film is being made with the
cooperation of Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison.
The Beatles company, Apple Corps, is co-producing the film.

The as-yet-untitled film is the second documentary directed by Howard, who
said he’s long been a Beatles fan. Howard previously made the 2013 Jay-Z
documentary "Made in America."

The film will run up to the Beatles’ final concert in San Francisco’s Candlestick
Park in 1966. Much footage for the documentary has already been gathered.
The movie is tentatively slated for release late next year.

MADE FOR TV MOVIE LAUNCHED A CAREER

movie of the week

duel11

Duel
was Steven Spielberg’s second feature-length directing effort, after his
1971 The Name of the Game NBC-TV series episode "L.A. 2017". It was two
years after a well-received turn directing a segment of the pilot-movie for the
anthology television series Night Gallery and several other TV episodes. Duel
was initially shown on television as an ABC Movie of the Week on Saturday,
November 13, 1971. It was later released to cinemas in Europe and Australia,
with a limited cinema release to some venues in the United States. The film’s
success enabled Spielberg to establish himself as a film director. It is one of
only two Spielberg-directed theatrical films for which John Williams did not
create the score, the other being The Color Purple (1985).
