The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, MI, and received a charter from the state of Michigan on Jan. 21, 1915.
The group began as a small network of local businessmen who referred clients to each other’s businesses. As the network grew, the members started to focus on not only themselves, but the needs of the community as well.
Russell Ward, above, was elected the first
president of the Michigan Kiwanis club in 1918.
John F. Kennedy was the first U.S. President to have his Inauguration
telecast in color. The NBC television network covered the event.

Richard M. Nixon was the 37th President of the United States from
1969 to 1974. He was the only President to resign the office as well
as the only person to be elected twice to both the Presidency and
Vice Presidency.
Millard Fillmore, the 13th President of the United States was in
office from 1850 until 1853. He was the last member of the Whig
Party to hold the office of President. Fillmore died on March 8,
1874.
