also lost their lives. In honor of first responders, the US Senate designated September 12 as the National Day Encouragement. It
was first announced in 2007 and has been celebrated each year
ever since.

On this day in 1868, the United States House of Representatives impeached President Andrew Johnson due to his attempt to dismiss Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The U.S. Senate later acquitted Johnson on May 26, 1868.
Andrew Johnson (December 29, 1808 – July 31, 1875) was the 17th president of the United States, serving from 1865 to 1869. He was was vice president at the time of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Actor Rodney Stephen Steiger (April 14, 1925 – July 9, 2002)
Cited as "one of Hollywood’s most charismatic and dynamic stars", Steiger died of pneumonia and kidney failure as a result of complications from surgery for a gall bladdertumor on July 9, 2002,in Los Angeles. He was 77.
