The first cookie sales by an individual Scout unit was by the Mistletoe Troop
in Oklahoma, in December 1917 at their local high school. In 1922, the Girl
Scout magazine The American Girl suggested cookie sales as a fund-raiser,
providing a simple cookie recipe from a regional director for the Girl Scouts
of Chicago.

Six types of cookies were being sold nationwide by 1956 and today, up to 28
varieties of Girl Scout cookies are offered. As of 2007, sales were estimated
at about 200 million boxes per year.

Fannie Farmer

Fannie Farmer changed the way Americans prepare food by
advocating the use of standardized measurements in recipes
and opened Miss Farmer’s School of Cookery in Boston. In
addition to teaching women about cooking, Farmer later
educated medical professionals about the importance of
proper nutrition for the sick.

TO ALL OUR VISITORS!

The Thanksgiving holiday’s history in North America is rooted in English traditions
dating from the Protestant Reformation. It also has aspects of a harvest festival,
even though the harvest in New England occurs well before the late-November
date on which the modern Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated.

Thanksgiving, currently celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November by federal legislation in 1941, has been an annual tradition in the United States by presidential proclamation since 1863 and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the
United States
