SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1940
Truth or Consequences, a mix of game show elements with wacky stunts,
was originally hosted on NBC radio by Ralph Edwards (above) from 1940
to 1957. The popular daily syndicated show was produced by Ralph
Edwards Productions. Sponsors included Duz soap, as well as Ivory
soap, Philip Morris, and Pet Milk. Truth or Consequences made its TV
debut on CBS in 1950.
Action Comics #127 (December 1948), featuring Superman
appearing on the show with Ralph Edwards.
QUIZ SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1943
The Better Half was a couples game show on Mutual radio that pitted
husbands and wives against each other to find out who was "the better
half." The questions were fairly easy and about American life in general
with topics such as household items, color associations, and travel. Tiny
Ruffner hosted the program during its entire run until January 19, 1949.

Original run on CBS/NBC: December 18, 1956 to December 14, 2001
To Tell the Truth is panel game show created by Bob Stewart and produced
by Goodson-Todman Productions. Bud Collyer was the show’s initial host.
