BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1770


William Clark (August 1, 1770 – September 1, 1838)
Born in Ladysmith, Colony of Virginia.

William Clark explored the American Northwest with Meriwether
Lewis
and served as the governor of the Missouri Territory from
1822 to 1838. From 1822 until his death in 1838, he served as
Superintendent of Indian Affairs. He was home-schooled and
grew very self conscious about his poor spelling ability.

Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is 69 years old today.

Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to pursue a career as a bodybuilder
at age fourteen, despite demonstrating prowess in football. He became
the youngest person to win the Mr. Universe contest when he was 20
and won four more times after and won the Mr. Universe title seven
times.

The establishment of the Veterans Administration (VA) came in 1930
when Congress authorized the president to "consolidate and coordinate
Government activities affecting war veterans". The three component
agencies became bureaus within the Veterans Administration. Brigadier
General
Frank T. Hines, who directed the Veterans Bureau for seven
years, was named as the first Administrator of Veterans Affairs, a job
he held until 1945.
