Musician Desi Arnaz is the son of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. He served as the
drummer for the band Dino, Desi, and Billy. He began playing drums when he
was twelve years old. Because his parents were the stars of I Love Lucy, his
birth was worked into the CBS television show’s plot.

Popular Mechanics is a magazine of popular technology. First published by
H. H. Windsor, it has been owned since 1958 by the Hearst Corporation. The
magazine features regular sections on automotive, home, outdoors, science,
and technology topics. In 2013, the US edition changed from twelve to ten
issues per year. There are nine international editions of the magazine.

MAGAZINES LAST ISSUE ON THIS DAY IN 1957

Collier’s magazine, founded in 1888 by Peter Fenelon Collier, was initially launched
as Collier’s Once a Week, then changed in 1895 to Collier’s Weekly: An Illustrated Journal, and finally shortened in 1942 to simply Collier’s. The magazine ceased publication with the January 4, 1957 issue, though a brief, failed attempt was
made to revive the Collier’s name with a new magazine in 2012.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1960

The song “Calendar Girl” was a success for Neil Sedaka,
peaking at number-four on the Billboard chart. Recording
of the song required 26 takes over a three-hour period. The
music was composed by Sedaka and the lyrics by Howard
Greenfield
who got the inspiration for the song title from an
old movie listing in a TV Guide magazine
.

 


Neil Sedaka turned 76 on March 13th.
