(April 2, 1937 – March 10, 2014)

According to Variety,"Hogans Heroes" actress Cynthia Lynn
has died. She suffered with hepatitis throughout the latter
years of her life and succumbed to the condition at her
home Monday night in Los Angeles. It’s believed she was
one of only two surviving members of the cast. She is
survived by her daughter, Lisa Brando, whose father was
Marlon Brando.

Lynn also appeared on "Mission:Impossible," "The Odd
Couple" and "The Six Million Dollar Man."

Samuel Andrew "Sam" Donaldson, Jr.

Reporter and news anchor Sam Donaldson has been with ABC News
from 1967 to the present. He is best known as the network’s White
House Correspondent (1977–89 and 1998–99). He also served as 
panelist and later co-anchor of the network’s Sunday news Program
"This Week". From 1956 to 1959, Donaldson served on active duty
as an artillery officer in the United States Army, attaining the rank
of Captain (USAR).

NAVY CRUISER LAUNCHED ON THIS DAY IN 1947

The second USS Newport News (CA–148) was a Des Moines-class heavy cruiser
in the United States Navy. It was laid down 1 November 1945 and launched on 6
March 1947 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company,Newport News, Virginia. The vessel was the first air-conditioned surface ship in the United States
Navy, and was the last all-gun heavy cruiser in commission in naval history.

In addition to annual deployments to the Mediterranean from for duty with the
Sixth Fleet, she participated in major fleet exercises and midshipman training
cruises in the Caribbean and Western Atlantic.

Newport News was decommissioned on 27 June 1975 and stricken from the Naval
Vessel
Register
on 31 July 1978. She spent her twilight years as a member of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard‘s "Mothball Fleet" and was sold for scrap in New
Orleans, Louisiana
, on 25 February 1993.
