Chuck Yeager and his Bell X-1 experimental supersonic plane, named
after his wife.
Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager is a retired major general in the
United States Air Force and former test pilot. He was the first pilot
to travel faster than sound in 1947.
Yeager is depicted by actor Sam Shepard in the 1983 film "The Right Stuff".

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patty Andrews, the last surviving member of the singing
Andrews Sisters trio whose hits such as the rollicking "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
of Company B" and the poignant "I Can Dream, Can’t I?" captured the home-front
spirit of World War II, died Wednesday of natural causes at her home in a suburb
of Los Angeles.
