BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1911


Lucille Désirée Ball (August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989)

Actress and comedienne Lucille Ball became immortalized on
TV’s I Love Lucy, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of
Freedom and the Living Legacy Award posthumously. 

Lucille Ball briefly worked under the stage name of Diane
Belmont, but was unable to keep a job as a chorus girl on
Broadway. She appeared in over 80 films from 1933 to 1989,
including Panama Lady, Too Many Girls, and Dubarry Was a
Lady. She was married to co-star Desi Arnaz from 1940-1960.

CHARACTER ACTOR HAS DIED AT 85


David William Huddleston (September 17, 1930 – August 2, 2016)

LOS ANGELES (AP) –  David Huddleston, a character actor best known for
portraying titular roles in "The Big Lebowski" and "Santa Claus: The Movie,"
has died.

Huddleston’s wife, Sarah C. Koeppe, said he died Tuesday of advanced heart
and kidney disease in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Huddleston famously portrayed the blustery millionaire whose identity Jeff
Bridges’ character is mistaken for in the 1998 cult comedy film "The Big
Lebowski."

Other credits in his 55-year-long career include the films "Blazing Saddles,"
”The Producers" and "Santa Claus: The Movie," as well as such TV series
as "The West Wing," ”Gilmore Girls" and "The Wonder Years."

Huddleston was born in 1930 in Vinton, Virginia. He served as an aircraft
engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force before studying acting in New York.

ACTRESS GLORIA DeHAVEN DIES AT 91


Gloria Mildred DeHaven (July 23, 1925 – July 30, 2016)

Gloria DeHaven was a actress and singer who was a contract star for Metro-
Goldwyn-Mayer
. Despite many featured roles, she never achieved movie
stardom. She began her career as a child actor with a bit part in Charlie
Chaplin
‘s Modern Times (1936. DeHaven died Saturday in Las Vegas, one
week after her 91st birthday.
