ACTOR ROBERT DUVALL IS 84 TODAY


Robert Selden Duvall

Actor and director Robert Duvall has been nominated for seven Academy
Awards
, winning for his performance in Tender Mercies (1983), seven
Golden Globes, winning four, and has multiple nominations and one win
each of the BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Emmy Award. He
also received the National Medal of Arts in 2005. Duvall has starred in
some of the most acclaimed and popular films and television series of
all time, including To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), The Twilight Zone (1963),
The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), Apocalypse Now
(1979), and Falling Down (1993).

“Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”was nominated for an Academy
Award
for Best Song.

The song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” was recorded at Decca‘s
Hollywood studios nearly a year before the United States entered
World War II but after the start of a peacetime draft to expand the
armed forces in anticipation of American involvement in war. The
flipside was "Bounce Me, Brother, With a Solid Four". The Andrews
Sisters
introduced both songs in the Abbott and Costello 1941 film,
Buck Privates
which was in production when they made the record.

M*A*S*H ACTOR DIES AT 82


William Wayne McMillan Rogers III
(April 7, 1933 – December 31, 2015)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wayne Rogers, whose Trapper John McIntyre
on “M.A.S.H.” was among the most beloved characters on one of the
most popular shows of all time, died Thursday.

His publicist and longtime friend Rona Menashe stated the actor was
surrounded by family when he died in Los Angeles of complications
from pneumonia.   

Rogers was on the show for just the first three of its 11 seasons on
CBS, but his run, and his character, are especially revered by show
devotees.

An Alabama native and Princeton graduate, Rogers had parts on
many short-lived shows before “M.A.S.H.,” specializing in westerns
like “Law of the Plainsman” and “Stagecoach West.”

MICHAEL NESMITH IS 73 TODAY



Robert Michael Nesmith

Singer-guitarist of The Monkees, Michael Nesmith wrote the song "Different
Drum" for Stone Poneys and was the executive producer of the 1984 film
Repo Man. He joined the Air Force before finishing high school and went
on to work as a songwriter.
